The Society of Malawi JournalThe Journal has the distinction of having remained in continuous publication since the first issue of January 1948. It has spanned a fascinating period from the history of colonial Nyasaland through the independence of Malawi (1964) and beyond to the present multi-party era (1994). The current editors, Colin Baker and David Stuart-Mogg continue the high standards set by previous editors and the Society is proud to maintain this tradition of excellence.

The Society Journal is free to members and available for a minimal charge to non-members. We are working on an index of article titles and author names to post on this page.

One of the pleasures of the Journal is the variety of contributors (both academic and non-academic) and articles drawn together by the editors from round the world. Subjects include: tribal and colonial history and culture, agriculture, wild life, travel and exploration, transport & communications, geography and geology, medicine, law, religion, economics and trade, biography, music and many others.

Contributions to the Journal are welcome. They should be originals and typed on one side of the page only. Preferably, articles should be on a floppy disc in word processing form, if possible MS Word, or e-mailed as a file attachment in text format only. Short pieces, book reviews, obituaries and letters will be considered as well as longer articles up to a maximum of 8000 words. Clear illustrations may be incorporated into the text. Any photographs should be originals or good copies (not photocopies) or on disc. E-mailed photographs should be attachments in jpeg format. Contributors are requested to include brief autobiographical details.

Contributions should be sent to one of the following:
